The first batch of Volvo EX30s bound for South Africa are currently en route, the automaker has confirmed. Ahead of a Q1 2024 launch, the EX30 is not only Volvo’s most affordable electrical vehicles (EVs) but one of South Africa’s most affordable EVs, priced from R775 900 in base form.
Demand has already proven strong, with more than 150 pre-orders as of September 2023.
The EX30 being shipped to SA as part of its first global shipment is big news, as it shows South Africa is becoming more accepting of electric cars.
Three trims are available; Core, Plus, and Ultra; with the base powertrain being a single-motor RWD model with 200 kW, 343 Nm of torque, and a 344 km range. 0-100 km/h takes 5.7 seconds and its top speed is limited to 180 km/h. The top two trims get the single-motor powertrain with an extended range battery, dropping the 0-100 time to 5.3 seconds and extending driving range to 476 km. An available dual-motor AWD powertrain makes the EX30 the quickest Volvo in history, with 315 kW, 543 Nm, and a 3.6-second 0-100 km/h time. This model has an electric driving range of 450 km.
